4 Tips To Beat The Stress Of Social Media Posting: For Business Owners

Adding one more task to the long list of tasks your business already demands is a painstaking thing to do. Now, if that one new thing is THE labyrinth of confusion aka social media, it can seem like that one thing just might sink the ship that is your mental state! Here some tips on how to beat the stress that comes with learning to navigate social media and have it work to your advantage:

Have A Plan

This simple….but effective component can make all the difference in you being able to stay consistent on social media. And being consistent on social media is critical to the algorithms knowing that you're there, and after some time….pushing your content out to your target audience.

Going into social media with no plan means you'll wait until the last minute to post, and waiting to the last minute to post means you'll likely throw anything against the wall to see if it sticks. This is not the best approach to ensure you feel good about balancing this new task in with your daily or weekly rotation of other business related tasks. And it'll make it that much harder to figure out what messaging works well for your business/brand on social media.

In short…create a calendar for posting, create content pillars for the style of content you will post (educational, community building, entertaining, etc.) and figure out the days that your content gets the most engagement, and start posting then.

Find Your Voice

Finding your voice online will take time. Trial and error will help with figure out what resonates most with your target audience. And it's your responsibility to figure this out, but once you invest the time….your future self will thank you. This will allow you to continue to create content that resonates well, but also decrease the amount of time it takes you to create content, because you won't have to worry about “what do I post” if you know what resonates most. This is how you improve your workflow, but also gain a loyal community that loves your product or service, and is eager to see what's new!

Learn to Laugh

Social media is like the Wild West….I think that reference works. What I mean is…it's like a box of chocolates….yeah that's better. You can never know what you'll get, most days may go well, and one day might throw you for a loop. Be ready to pivot if what once worked no longer does…and learn to laugh at the things that go wrong and also when the internet trolls make their stop on your business pages. Remember to stay connected to your loyal target audience…in those crazier times…they'll have your back online more than you might expect!

Take a Break

Now this is always a controversial topic when it comes to social media or work of any kind. But here's my hot take…..take a freaking break. Get a walk in during the day, do something you enjoy that connects you to the outside world, daily. Social media should be fun….but if you find that you're stressing more than you'd like to, it's okay to take a step back….so you can come back with fresh eyes, and fresh ideas!

So go on….get to posting…it's not as difficult as you might think. Just think of that task you've just recently cleared off your list of things to do….was it there for days, weeks, months?! I'll bet it was faster to resolve than you built it up to be….think of this like that…you might be surprised.
